May 11, 2017 -

I recently worked with a family whose daughter is currently in college but had not filled in the FAFSA for 2 years. They did not think they would get any aid. They also did not realize the student was eligible for the HOPE scholarship in Georgia. They ended up now getting the HOPE Scholarship, Pell Grant and tax credits missed from the last 3 years. Total savings - $17,000!

Another family (with a unique family situation) that hired me about 2 years ago, recently showed me the aid package received from UGA. Because of the time spent filling in the FAFSA correctly and timely (we finished it during the first week of October), she not only earned the Zell Miller Scholarship but many need based aid awards that reduced her first year cost of college (tuition/fees/room/board) to under $500! In addition, the tax credit they qualified for will cover at least the cost of textbooks or $1,000, whichever is lower.

List of some of the destinations of HS seniors I have worked with:

Davidson - 1/2 the price of UGA, Cornell University, Cal Poly San Luis Abispo, another UGA paying only $500 plus work study, UNC - less than 1/2 the price of UGA... and many more.

September 2018

Helped a family with a child with a learning difference find a program that will be completely tax deductible (amount over 10% of income) as it will qualify as a medical expense.

October 2018

Helped a family fill in the FAFSA correctly and reduced their Expected Family Contribution by over $10,000. Should be Pell Grant eligible now.
